AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Medium Tank Regiment
The Medium Tank was a important step in the evolution of armored warfare, as advances in tank design required more armor, and more firepower, to compete and/or survive. Some of the most famous tanks in history were medium tanks:
Expand/Collapse
Although the German Panzer III wasn't necessarily better on paper than other tanks of the time period, it dominated the early stages of the war with superior tactics, and were the first radio equipted tanks; allowing for unprecendented command and control. Received several upgrades to increase firepower, but was usually under-gunned, and changes in tank warfare made it obsolete by the end of the war.
The Russian T-34 has been described by many as the best tank in history. The T-34 introduced sloped armor and had a very low profile, which greatly improved crew survivability. But this came a cost, as it was also one of the most uncomfortable tanks ever created. The crew could often only handle a couple of hours inside before becoming very fatigued by the cramped conditions.
The USA M4A1 Sherman relied on speed and raw numbers to help allied forces turn the tide of the war. Until it recieved upgrades, it was unable to penetrate the frontal armor of most German tanks of the day. New high explosive ammo helped, but was in short supply. Heavily relied on tactics and speed to outmanuever and flank enemy tanks.
The British M3 Grant was provided by lend lease from the United States, and was an inferior design frought with many problems, most notably the lack of a traditional turret. US tank development was behind at this stage of the war, and no better example than the M3 which was rushed into service.
The Japanese Type 2 Ke-To was actually a light tank designed for use as a "flying tank ". The Type 2 Ke-To would have been a poor match versus any allied tank, although it was held back to help defend an invasion of the Japanese mainland, and never saw combat. Only a handfull were ever completed and battle ready.
"The tank stage is the last and most difficult stage in Axis and Allies. It requires the most micro , because not only do you have to control a plethora of units in the field, but you have to defend your base from para drops and bomber planes." [more basic strategy ]
The Medium Tank Regiment, much like it's real-life counterpart, attempts to find a balance of speed, armor, and firepower; with more mobility than heavy and arty tanks, and better armor and firepower than light tanks. That being said, the "window of opportunity" for medium tanks is somewhat small, as they cannot compete with the strongest regiments in the game. If you can deploy them early enough they can be effective versus AT-Mech.
Medium Tank Regiment
In our never-ending quest to leave no stone unturned, let's look at one of the rarely used armored regiments in A&A. When comparing any regiment you must consider the differences of the various units present in each regiment, and any upgrades that may help them on the battlefield. So here's the basic stats of
Medium Tank Units and
Command Units , followed by a

Medium Tank Regiment - Type 2 Ke-To "Medium" TankIn Conclusion
As we said earlier, the "window of opportunity" for this regiment is somewhat small. Producing this regiment makes the most sense with the countries that have
Tank Production or with Japan (more tank units than other countries), and even better if they have the
Rapid Deployment (
Mikawa ,
Rokossovski )
The key to success with this regiment is to get them out early enough so that they are facing AT-Mech or smaller numbers of Arties and Heavies.
This regiment will need to be replaced if your opponents field large numbers of Arty and Heavy Tanks. Use them to buy time, retreating as needed, until you can get stronger units to the front.
