Archibald Wavell
Archibald Wavell
AXIS and ALLIES RTS

In February 1941, the British were on the verge of overrunning the last Italian forces in Libya, which would have ended all Axis control in Africa. But at this same time the Germans and Italians were attacking Greece. Wavell was ordered to halt his advance into Libya and send troops to Greece. He disagreed with this decision but followed his orders. The result was a disaster. The Germans had an opportunity to reinforce the Italians in North Africa, the British were unable to set up an adequate defense on the Greek mainland and were forced to withdraw to Crete with heavy losses, and a pro-Axis faction took over the government of Iraq leading to the brief Anglo-Iraqi War.

Wavell was well-known to be a great lover of poetry. He made the selections for an anthology of great poetry, Other Men's Flowers, which was published in 1944; the last poem in the anthology he wrote himself. He had a great memory for poetry and often quoted it at length. He is depicted in Evelyn Waugh's novel "Officers and Gentlemen", part of the Sword of Honour trilogy, reciting poetry in public. Like many Englishmen, he was a member of the Church of England.

AXIS and ALLIES RTS

Carpet Bomb - One of the most powerful special ops in the game. Sends a wave of long range bombers to carpet bomb a target area. [compare all the special op bombs]

The Double Bomb - The most important aspect in online multiplayer is to coordinate the use of the carpet bomb with the other "bombs" your allies may (or may not) have. The "double bomb" can have devastating effects on enemy forces when used correctly. When you have acquired enough experience for your carpet bomb, let your allies know, and if someone else has one, hold onto yours until you can "double". [more info]

The Single Bomb - Occasionally there are circumstances where you may need to use a single bomb to defend a base, or to prevent your forces from being "pinched". Once again, communicated with your allies, ask them if they have anything to counter the threat, and if not, go ahead and single bomb.

If you have the only bomb on your team you have a little more freedom about when and where to use it. However, with freedom comes some responsibilty, so keep an eye on battlefield conditions, and if your allies need it more than you do, help them out.

The Front Lines - Another important aspect of using any bomb type special op, is to use them where you have nearby forces. Not only can you chase down wounded/routed regiments and "finish them off", but you can also use this as an opportunity to "push" (advance) the front lines, as enemy forces will be retreating to heal.

Charging Your Bomb - You also have a responsibilty to your allies to try to "charge" your bomb quickly by gaining as much experience as possible. That may mean you focus a little less on your economy, and a little more on making regiments and getting them into battle. The more troops you have fighting the quicker you will gain exp for your bomb!

Sand Bagging - The sand bagging special op can be used on your base structures (or ally structures) to provide added defensive resistances during an attack. Gives an added 40% resistance to all types of damage excluding fire. Since you have a bomb, don't use it unless you need it (however, a building being attacked is usually a good reason). Can be used late game to try and help survive an airborne or air attack, but don't expect this special op to protect your base by itself!

NOTE: If any ally is attacked by air/airborne, help them out with this special op

AXIS and ALLIES RTS

The average housefly lives longer than the Secret Agent

The Secret Agent: En route via Air Transport
Secret Agent - The secret agent special op deploys an unattached single unit, with no weapons, to scout enemy territory. This unit also steadily losses health until it dies, even if it is not in a combat situation (as illustrated on the left).

Needless to say the applications for this special op are limited. Don't waste the experience on this special in the early game, much more important to save that EXP for your carpet bomb. Can be used in the late game to probe enemy defenses for a weak spot.

RECHARGE TIME3600  ONE NEW CORP HQ (PER HOUR) (1) Corp HQ
AXIS and ALLIES RTS

Placing your second Corp HQ
Corp Reorganization - Everyone has to deploy a new corp hq from time to time. Don't be hasty about placing that second corp (this special op can only be used once per hour). Make sure you have resolved the situation that caused you to lose your first one! You can always ask your allies if the have a safe place, their base defenses may be better than yours.

If there is no safe place wait until there is one! Move your technology buildings in the meantime, as they may be subject to attack following the fall of your corp hq (losing those buildings too will limit the regiments you can produce).

Keep in mind your second Corp HQ will become a "high priority" target for your enemies. If they can destroy your second corp, and your technology buildings, you will be stuck making only light tanks or halftracks (depending on the tents you have left), which really can't compete in the later stages of the game (or any stage of the game for that matter).

 General Wavell
Wavell is Great Britian's second strongest general, as he is fortunate enough to have a Carpet Bomb. However, the rest of his special ops have little to no use and/or impact in online play.
