Surprisingly the Medium Tank Type 2 Ke-To is significant to Axis and Allies online play, even though the medium tank unit is rarely ever produced by any other country. A&A credits this unit with a 75mm gun
First of all, the real life Type 2 Ke-To only featured a 37mm gun, and only 29 were ever produced, so it seems somewhat a strange selection by the game designers. The tank was largely still classified as a light tank, and perhaps goes to show how far behind was in tank development.
The Type 3 Chi-Nu would have been a more logical choice, even though it didn't see combat (held back for the invasion of the Japanese mainland) Post war inspections of the Type 3 Chi-Nu were positive, with vast improvements in armor and firepower that had been missing from all other Japanese armor.
So you're still wondering why the Medium Tank Unit is important? When compared to the other medium tank units it is still noticeably inferior:
http://www.axis-and-allies.com/encyclopedia-192.html
As you can see it has the lowest health, defense, and blast damage of any of the medium tanks.
"No one makes medium tank regiments online except the AI!"
Yes, we know, and the answer to it's importance comes in an unusual place. the Artillery Tank Regiment.
All other Arty Tank regiments feature light tanks, whereas has their mythical medium tank instead. We assume this was done for game balancing reasons, since has no heavy tanks. |

Yes, even our own Panzer II can't compete if you stick a damn imaginary gun on it! Why didnt they give it a laser too!!
but seriously, the Medium Tank does outclass all the light tanks (as it should)

This also causes a side effect for producing Japanese Arties. When playing as Japan, you are required to have an Artillery Brigade, Motor Pool, and an Armor HQ to deploy arty tanks. All other countries only require the Artillery Brigade and Armor HQ.
Not really much of a penalty though, since the motor pool is required for many important upgrades.. It does keep Japan from selling their Motor Pool late game and replacing with an HQ. (see tent swapping) |

True about that there this game made by Atari actually has different versions of the Japanese Mediums because as I researched there is no such thing as Japanese Medium Type 2 Ke To I don't where they get the name but most likely the combination of the Japanese WWII tanks. However there was one tank that fired a 75mm actually and that's probably why A&A chose the Japanese Type 3 Chi-Nu which has the 75mm. The largest of all the guns produced by the Japanese. For more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_3_Chi-Nu. The name they got from different sources as you see but the real i think it is this one. Here is the image in the link or picture below either one. I think A&A made for fairness so that one country cannot overwhelm another.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Japanese_Type_3_Chi-Nu_tank_1.jpg |
