Forced March Greatly increases a unit’s speed, but also decreases health and morale. While it doesnt directly effect morale, it inflicts (1) flame damage per second to targeted regiments (flame damage has devestating effects on morale). This is not a special op we would advise you use very often. It has always been joked about “I wish I could use it on the enemy”... Save your experience for other uses. |

yeah, very bad OP, no idea why they implemented it the way it is, cause honestly it does more harm than good... only instance I will even consider using this OP is if you overwhelm your opponent's army and he's retreating at full speed, so you use it to catch up and finish him off, while still not putting yourself at too big a risk due to the overwhelming odds of your army. |

actually, the only time I ever use this special op is in custom built single-player missions.
having read about British "drum fire" during World War I: this is where they would keep certain positions under nearly constant bombardment day-and-night... I decided to try and emulate this process on Axis and Allies.
I would create a fortified city with bunkers, arty guns, and entrenched regiments. behind this, or between the bunkers, I would then place cutscene actors full of half-track artillery and artillery tanks.
then I would create area-based triggers so that when regiments enter Area 0 cutscene arty halftracks and SPA tanks would lay down "drum fire" barrages-- basically it would lay down a constant barrage of overlapping bombardments. doing this the right way requires about 15 triggers to make it work. as soon as my infantry regiments enter Area 0 I employ a pair of "ability triggers". the first trigger grants the enemy the ability to use Demoralization on my attacking regiments. the second trigger grants the ability of Forced March on my troops. the effect being that when they've entered the bombardment zone their morale drops to almost nothing-- and they actually injure themselves in their desperate attempts to retreat from the sustained artillery barrage.
it's a complicated sequence of triggers. if I want to make an assault especially brutal I might even add the "Double the Guard" operation and "Sandbagging" to the defending bunkers and arty guns! this last sort of procedure might require some 20 triggers to make work.
I've tried using regular regiments to recreat the impact of drumfire... but it's impossible to get enough full-sized egiments in there to do it properly and still have regiments left over. so cutscene actors is the most practical. |
