You guys were talking about running campaign maps on the Editor to figure out triggers. How exactly to do do that? I can't find the campaign maps, and I've beaten the campaign. Any help? |

Thanks, but I was wondering how to look at campaign maps on editor. Is there a way I could edit the map of Defense of Normandy from the Campaign? Also, I would like to edit the Crete one. Is there any way I can view these? |

I've been trying to post the extracted campaign missions in a zip file on the forum-- but I haven't had any luck thus far. my guess is that the file size is too large for my account... or a server glitch
however, this smaller download file is the RWD extractor. you can use this simple little program to extract all of the rwd files in the game. it can enable you to mod the game to your heart's content. it will also enable you to look at the original campaign map files. it only took my a few minutes to figure out how this thing works.
it works like any basic extraction program-- you open up the interface, and then select the proper file paths you need, and then click on the file you want to extract.
using this little program (and lots of experimenting) answered about half of my questions about the game. |

Giz did it right, like i said in other posts, a program that lets you observe the files for your self. Try making Youtube videos to show how to do it. |

Thanks, but how exactly do I use this extracor thingy? I'm not a great one for computers. I don't really want to mod, as much as just edit and be able to play the campaiign missions from the other sides perspective. Also, if I use this extractor thing, will I be able to play online and still have my stats? |

the download includes instructions on how to use it. it shouldn't interfere with your ability to play online when you use it. the only way it could create a problem is if you start modding the game to hell and back (like I've been doing).
1. download the extractor program.
2. it's in a compressed format. you'll have to extract the file itself in order to use the program.
3. once you've extracted the program put it somewhere obvious, where you'll find it again
4. click on the program interface icon
5. once you've clicked on the program icon in your windows directory-- you'll need to find a button in the upper left-hand corner that says "extract"
6. click that button
7. you'll want to look in Program Files/Atari/Axis & Allies to find the "Data" RWD.
8. select Data.rwd
9. then click the "Open" interface button.
10. after several seconds (or minutes) depending on your computer's speed.... the files will be extracted
11. open up the extracted Data folder
12. then open the Maps folder
13. then open the Campaign folder
all of the mission files should be there for you to edit as you see fit.
I spelled it out in little baby-steps, because I took your word that you're not great with computers. however, the user interface for the extractor program does have pretty clear instructions for experience computer users. if you can install and uninstall software, this should be pretty simple to use. |

I've never played online, to be honest. I've been having too much fun making custom maps and learning about triggers. |

Ok. Well, I'm going to download the extractor thing right now, so thanks again! You should try online, though. I just played custom matches and stuff for a year, but when I started online, I pretty much stick with that. It's a great challenge, you actually have to think strategically, unlike against this games omnipotent AI... |

Uhhhh Gizmo, I checked my A&A file and there was one folder called 'data'. i clicked that, and there were several, however, none of them had rwd files. They had only like custom maps and things but they were not .rwd. Any help? |

I've noticed something peculiar. on my XP based tower this application works splendidly. when I tried using it on the laptop (Vista), I got nothing.
in fact, after trying three or four different methods I couldn't access a single file. there were no sub-folders added, and the file count for the program folder didn't change. so my best guess is you're using Vista-- and it's just not gonna work.
if, however, you've got an XP-based sys
if your game was installed in the normal fashion this is where you want to look:
Computer ->
Drive C ->
Program Files ->
Atari ->
Axis & Allies ->
assuming that you've got all the files listed by name, this means that you have folders at the top and data files on the bottom.
if it's starting with the beginning of the alphabet and working it's way towards the end-- then you need to go down 8 lines from the top and you should see a file called Data.rwd. it should be 629,387 kilobytes in size. THIS is the file that you need to extract with the RWD extraction program.
make sure you extract the files into your Axis and Allies directory in Program Files. this way you can always find it again.
after you've done that. there should be a NEW folder called "Data" in your Axis and Allies folder. |

ah, I forgot about that annoying requirement....
right click the RWD extractor program and then choose "Run as Administrator".
I know, it's silly, because I only have ONE adminstrator account on my lap-top, but I still had to jump through this little hoop to get the program to work. |

Jeez I got it to work, and I edited some campaign missions. But, now, whenever I try to start the game, it says ERROR: Work depot not specified. So, |
