for those who don't know-- aka people new to Axis and Allies-- the Monte Cassino building is the only standing structure that is not a solid object. this has a couple of meanings. once you destroy this building it's gone forever. regiments can pass through this buliding. the most interesting aspect of this building is that you can put things inside of it.
my favorite trick with Monte Cassino thus far is to park machine gun bunkers inside of it. not only that, but you can jam the building full of cutscene actors to make for some urban warfare surprises. I've created missions where even elite infantry regiments can be routed by crossing paths with a half-dozen infantry snipers and two machine gun bunkers hidden inside of this building.
finally, since it's not solid-- you can overlap multiple copies of this building to create destroyed building shapes that are otherwise unavailable to the game. you can use it to expand or change the appearance of other damaged buildings as well. it's a nifty feature. |
