this one is still a 'work in progress'. I've managed to do most of the thing I wanted with this map.
there are 26 cities on a 704x704 map. there are lots of roads and rivers that intersect through a forested landscape. whoever manages to control all of the cities will end up with $450 a minute, and over 300 units of ammo and oil in addition to that.
some of the cities are powerhouses of ammo, others are heavy on oil. if you were to control one of the major industrial cities and keep it, you could have no trouble fielding lots of armor very quickly in the game.
three of the cities have technology buildings attached to them. I wanted to simulate the fact that controlling certain urban centers could give one player access to technological advantages.
there are also four hills spread through the map. I used the South Pacific city center to simulate a hill-- and also to allow it to change hands during battle.
one of my concerns was that controlling a hilltop would afford the advantages that it would normally have in the real world. so all of the hills have visibiliaty actors attached to them. if you can capture one of the hills you will be able to see the enemy approaching from twice the distance that would be normally allowed. this comes in handy if they start sending out lots of bombers.
I tried something unusual with the addition of farms. although they aren't cities, it is possible to capture two of the farms. Anderson Farm and Hesketh farm. whoever captures these farms will be able to get the technology of foraging and plentiful ammunition without spending a dollar. probably don't want to do that until after you've secured a safe perimeter, though.
the roads are created with a dirt transition. so when vehicles are travelling directly through the forest they are vulnerable to infantry. on the other hand, if you keep your vehicles, particular the regiment CO, on the road-- your vehicles will have less to worry about. if your vehicles get attacked by infantry rush to the nearest road to help increase their odds of survival.
any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. |
