The Fabian strategy is a tactic of avoiding decisive battles, instead taking a defensive position, and looking for small skirmishes to wear down your opponent; buying time to build military and economic strength

this is one of those rare strategies where it's beneficial to build bunkers. use a string of maybe four entrenched regiments supported by artillery and machine-gun bunkers. while you build up your economy and get some tanks ready. have the entrenched regiments retreat when they get worn down and have the bunkers stall the enemy forces. if the enemy doesn't take the bait and destroy the bunkers for you... you can always sell them off after your new regiments move forward.

however, for this tactic to really work you need to find a good 'choke point' on the map. ideally between two mountainous regions OR mountains and water. the idea is that ONLY artillery could possibly bypass the choke point and attack your forces. it also needs to be a place that's extremely hard to bypass or ignore.

this will work great against the AI; because it never gets tired of making frontal attacks on choke-points! against a human player this is just the first step. use this to set up a hammer & anvil attack or do a flanking or envelopment of the advancing enemy forces after they try to bypass your bunkers.

I have used this strategy in an Infantry only attack on an island with Mech. I gained a foothold but the opposing force had more boots on the ground at the start, so I dug in. Bunker/Artillery rows backed by Supply depots to push the line forward. Then advance the Bunkers/Artillery on each front until I could see the opposing force tent lines. By then (many hours later), I had sufficient Mortar and Antitank units to push on a concentrated front and demolish a couple of tents each raid. Swapped fronts each time to provide more time to demolish. Won in the end, but an epic battle that I do not want to repeat. Always attack now (original game) with superior numbers to ensure I have more resources to build quickly compared to the opposing force.
