theharkonnen and I are still working on the ideas discussed here in the past.
we've found a way to replace the bombers with fighters as the lead element in aerial attacks. what this enabled us to do is to use fighters to attack enemy ground targets. the biggest benefit from using the fighter as the lead attack unit is this: players can now use "Interceptor" fighter airfields to attack enemy units in the air, on the ground, and on water. you can use fighters to strafe enemy regiments approaching your base, shoot down approaching bombers, or to intercept approaching paratrooper drops.
we've also found a way to add infantry rockets to fighters. so this means that players can now have P-47, Corsair, or Tempest fighters launching rockets at enemy ground targets. fighters are now useful for things other than escorting bombers.
we've also added dozens of new types of bombers and fighters for all of the major countries.
additionally, some countries will have the ability to purchase supply drops (with fighter escort) from regular airfields. although it can be very expensive, sending out two or three supply drops to help prepare for a base-rush can add a lot of tactical variety tot he game.
we have changed the aircraft stats so that fighters that were historically faster than enemy planes will enjoy a speed advantage. so you can see a clear difference in speed between the P-51 and the Mitsubishi Zero. the Zero can obviously turn much tighter than the P-51 now.
and we've also added jets for Germany, the US, Great Britain, Japan, and Italy.
the beta patch is available here.
