I tried to search this information in this webpage but I didnīt find it. I would like to know if I can download an official map and play with the German in the road to Rome map or to play with the British in the Creta map, the first mission of the axis forces in the game.
I suppose that I could do it because I downloaded and played with some maps as the Berlin fall map among others, but I donīt know how I made it.
Thanks |

it's possible. the way I did it was to download the RWD extractor program-- then extract all of the game data from the data.rwd.
after that I would copy and past all of the campaign maps into the regular maps folder in My Documents. then you can load them up one-at-a-time as custom missions and you can swap sides with any of the participants. |

Is there anyway to edit the campaign or is that hard-coded? After I am done adding stuff, I thought about making th campaign a bit more intense (Stanlingrad was a joke when playing as Russia - Russia should feel the full might of the German assault and be struggling to survive. Same with the German Stalingrad - as the player, you should be rushing in to aid the surrounded German forces, not be up against them by yourself) |

I used the RWD program fine. I only had some problems because I downloaded the official maps of the campaigns but I couldnīt choose among different armies. I could fix the problem very easy. For example, in Monte_Cassino.TGI I wrote: (2v2)Monte_Cassino.TGI and I can choose the German troops (itīs the British mission). Maybe there is a better way, I donīt know. I accept other ideas.
Thanks |

I believe it's possible to edit the campaign. I flat-out replaced the first Axis mission and it seemed to work well enough. to start with, just swap out the files and keep the same names so that it loads properly in sequence. there are multiple files involved, and it will still try to prompt for animations-- I'd settle for making "better" versions of the existing missions before getting too ambitious and changing them outright. there's a suprising number of files involved in making the SP campaign work.
things get tricky if you start modifying original regiments. if you've changed the default regiment it won't show up in the game like it's supposed to. I changed all of the recon regiments: I made a special recon infantry unit that has lower health and defense values than regular infantry. to make the situation "worse" I also reduced the number of units from 5 to 4. this means that every time the original campaign missions start looking for recon regiments it can't find them-- since they no longer exist in the default condition they expect them to be in.
I got tired of seeing the "Recon Rush"... and it gets used constantly to recharge experience points for bombing ops. I decided that recons should have 0 defense value to preclude that from happening. with my pending mod, recons are only good for one thing: to recon the map. even entrenched, they just don't have the firepower, health, or numbers to hold their own in a fight. you could spam recons all you want-- but they would get killed off quickly. even recruit-level conscripts and commandos could take them out in the blink of an eye.
I digress...
in some missions this wouldn't matter-- but in others it can lead to serious crashes. before trying to get too ambitious in modifying the original maps-- make sure that you've eliminated any problem regiments that won't spawn properly in the new version.
in regards to Stalingrad: I've seen a lot of maps inspired by this battle and none of them have felt entirely satisfactory.
there's a lot of area being compressed into one small map-- and I find myself thinking I would prefer to break it up into sub-sections. the battle lasted so long, and had such a large historical and physical scope-- that one map doesn't do it justice. at the very least, if one map is to be used, it should be the largest size possible-- and should include 4 vs 4 to help maintain constant pressure on the player and their allies. |

I found the file for the campaign map order, but where are the actual maps? Nevermind, just found them. I play around later, for now I am adding proper SS units. |
