Only way is to increase the number of, say, the front property. Increase the number at the beginning and add two more front slots with your desired coordinates.

You have to be aware though that if you put units too far out, it will be hard to control the regiment. That is why i actually decreased regiment numbers, so that they are easier to control and don't take up too much space.

I increased the front property by two and added two slots for skirmishers. Got an incompatible formation error. Can you not add the new slots to existing formations?

Here is my big infantry formation. I used the regular infantry regiment layout as a base.

IDS = regiment_infantry_big ;---Must change this
name = "#regiment_infantry_name"
default_formation_ids = regiment_defensive
combat_formation_ids = regiment_aggressive
[Slot template=LayoutSlot]
property_IDS = front
locked = true
number = 3
name = "#regiment_infantry_Slot_name"

[Slot template=LayoutSlot]
property_IDS = front
required = false
name = "#regiment_infantry_Slot_name_2"

[Slot template=LayoutSlot]
property_IDS = front
required = false
name = "#regiment_infantry_Slot_name_3"

[Slot template=LayoutSlot]
property_IDS = front
required = false
name = "#regiment_infantry_Slot_name_4"

[Slot template=LayoutSlot]
property_IDS = front
required = false
name = "#regiment_infantry_Slot_name_4"

[Slot template=LayoutSlot]
property_IDS = front
required = false
name = "#regiment_infantry_Slot_name_4" ; As you can see I just copied the front slot a bunch of times.

;; Rear Guard1
[Position template=FormationPosition]
property_IDS = front
offset = -3.75,+2.5

;; Rear Guard2
[Position template=FormationPosition]
property_IDS = front
offset = -2.25,+2

;; Rear Guard3
[Position template=FormationPosition]
property_IDS = front
offset = 0,+2.25

;; Rear Guard3
[Position template=FormationPosition]
property_IDS = front
offset = 0,+3.25

;; Rear Guard2
[Position template=FormationPosition]
property_IDS = front
offset = -3.25,+2 ; Again just copied and pasted. The additional number must be reflected in the first section.

Also, as a note, if you add slots, you must add them to all three formations or the game will hate you.

Yeah, I did almost exactly what you did there...and added to all the formations as well. And it still hates me. I don't get it. Well, I'll try again. Maybe I screwed something up in the syntax.

Yeah, I find its very sensitive. It took me a while to figure it out.

Also, the positions have to be the same. If you add two slots on the end, the new slots for the formations have to be at the end.

As with most of modding, its all trial and error.

Unhelpful error messages. I tried copying what you had into the other spots, but...yeah. No dice. Ah well - maybe it's not meant to be.

There aren't any other files I need to edit that I should be aware of, yes? Just the layout file and the regiment file?

What I posted above was just some basics of it. It wouldn't work since its not all there.

The whole process is hard to explain, so I'll give you my regiment layouts and the affected regiments to see what I did.

Ah, I found the problem. My math was off - I had one fewer layout slot than I had added units. Whoops. Rolling Eyes I guess I'm just an idiot. Thanks for the help anyways.

that happens ALL the time in modding. I couldn't figure out why my Marine division was only deploying captains for several weeks. (I was modding after work, and was already pretty tired on most evenings). then, one morning, when I was actually awake, I realized the problem was that I had the Corps HQ recruiting an HQ truck instead of an HQ regiment. sometimes one little word or number can screw up everything. it's not for nothing that we speak of "learning through trial and error"! Wink

Hello,

Do you need to re-compress the files? I'm trying to edit the skins of the German tanks to be historical and without those ugly Balkan Crosses taking up so much space.

personally, I have never recompressed the files. I don't actually have the software on hand to do so.

besides, I find that once people start tinkering they keep going. easier to leave everything out in the open and keep working.

unless you desperately need to save space on your hard-drive it doesn't seem necessary.
