I never got around to doing paratrooper units. I didn't want to make Germany too powerful, as ideally, the Brits and Americans would have the best paratroopers. SS paratroopers would kill their advantage in this area and I didn't think the SS had paratrooper units.

Still, I could possibly add them, making them weaker than their land counterparts. I'm still working on single unit regiments for the tank bunkers though.

I'm hoping to post the ''alpha' version of my mod in the next couple of weeks. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the file-size smaller-- because right now my 'working copy' is very large! the regular factions seem to be working pretty good-- I've got at least 10 generals available in World War 2 mode for every nation. I've doubled the number of special ops that are available. the number of regiments has... well, I didn't count those, but there's probably at least three times as many regiments and units compared to the original game. I'm sure that there are some gameplay balance issues. I noticed that some generals are very strong against certain situations and opponents-- and then very weak against others!

I was looking for decent places to host the files-- any suggestions?

Well, my mod is around 300 mb thus far, so I'm sure its no big deal. I was hoping to release my mod as well soon, but because of my vacations, RL issues, and because I still like to play video games once in a while, I probably won't release it until next year unfortunately. This is mainly due to me wanting to add a ton of new voices for existing factions for each of the new regiments, and because I keep wanting to add more stuff, like AA tanks. I also have to test the balance too.

I was thinking of posting my mod on the Moddb website. You can add it, post pictures, a description, etc. I don't think there are file size limits either.

I tried mediafire, but they delete stuff after a while.

I would suggest megaupload, but they are gone.

Rapidshare may be a good one, too. Never used it though.

However, for all except mediafire, you need to sign uo with them.

I'm pretty sure that there's some problems... but I think the mod is at the stage where I need other people to test it out. I'm going to post it on GameFront later in the week. after a pretty ridiculous couple of days of trimming I think the only files included are new files needed for the mod to work.

I had planned on doing some more modding-- but I think I might need to take a little break. to put it all in perspective:

original game limt was 20 regiments, that limit is now 180
original building limit was 20, that limit is now 40 (ammo, oil, and supply depots don't count)

the game originally had 20 generals-- I have now increased that number to 72
(50 available in WW2, an additional 22 with the editor)

the game originally had 35 special ops and I've increased it to 69.

I expanded the original 120 regiments into roughly.... 366 regimental files. (this includes new divisional HQs)

then there's the new corpse and destroyed vehicle doodads. new campaign buildings. (bunkers that can sink battleships)... so, yeah.

when I get a halfway decent READ-ME written up I'll post about it later.

added a slew of new terrain, terrain modifiers, techs.

there's bound to be some game-play and balance problems! since the game mechanics are fundamentally unchanged.

part of it comes down to this: after spending a lot of time rebuilding the WW2 Meta-Game interface to begin accomodating new national factions-- I hit a brick wall. I still think it's theoretically possible-- but it's discouraging that I can't figure out how. so, when things get frustrating-- take a break, and find other fun things to do.

I wanted people to be able to play China in World War II mode-- but it looks like that might not happen. what I mean to say is, Chinese units could be available but they would basically function as American units. I was hoping to fully integrate China into WW2 with a completely new set of generals... and I'm not sure I know how to do that yet. (although that would certainly be easier than creating a new faction from scratch!)

So are you taking a permanent break or just a month or so off?

I know some previous mods added Italy and others, but I don't remember if they had them integrated in the WWII mode. Anyway, if you want a good WWII mode with France and Italy, get the War Leaders game I talked about in the General Discussion area. For $2, its worth it. Hate to sound like a salesperson, but hey, I liked it a lot.

probably a month-long break (or two). I got way too much work done on China to just throw it away now.
the five original nations basically work the way I wanted them to. I figured now would be a good time to take a little break from modding. I actually -played- the game this weekend.

(given how I am about working all the time-- if an idea gets me-- it might only be a week or two)

That's probably a good idea. I usually mod intensively and as a result, I get burned out after a couple weeks. So, its good to take a break sometimes. I took long breaks over the summer myself, so its only natural.

Will you still be looking at theese forums or are you taking a month long break totally?

I'll probably keep looking --cuz it's fun. and hopefully within a week or so the mod will be posted for downloading somewhere-- and perhaps, if I'm lucky, people will actually play it and have some thoughts about it.

I tried Game-Front and it just went into this endless interface loop. so I can't recommend that website for uploading patches. I'm trying out ModDB even as I type here. hopefully the patch will work there. after a few weeks of relentless trimming and down-sizing I've managed to get the patch down to about 150 megs in compressed form. the original working copy was insanely huge... I imagine that there will be some missing textures or something-- in my zeal to 'trim the fat'.

wow, trying to upload this mod is really frustrating.

the ModDB jiust kept hanging up whenever I tried to post the mod there. it's given instructions that it's faster to post the file as a URL-- but I have no idea how to do that. kinda annoying. at this rate I'm about ready to break the mod up into 15 or more little pieces and post it here-- because all these websites say it's "easy" to upload files-- and then it turns out to be hours of frustration with no results!

Well, that bites. I thought for sure one of them would work. My mod is bigger, so I don't think posting it here is an option.

after an extra 30 minutes of circum-navigating the ModDB website it seems you have to make a formal submission before they will post anything. so I submitted a formal request the other day-- and the request appears to have been approved. so I'm hoping by the end of the week the mod will be online.

the tricky part is that ModDB requires that it be a completely original mod-- so my concern is that our mods might be considered TOO similar for both of them to get posted. if you're definitely adding Italy that probably ensures that it'll get posted okay.

This could be a problem because I took Italian, German, and other national voices from other games.

I have played mods that have voices from other games, but I think the voices all may be from the same company (Taking voices from one EA game and taking them to another EA game). My mod doesn't do this.

Still, I could release the main part of the mod there and post the voices and stuff here, since there are around 50 kb each.

Gizmotron's User-Mod.

I wish I had come up with something more creative-- but I couldn't think of anything else. those few people that know about it probably associate it with my user-name anyways.

still doing a bit of trouble-shooting, trying to get rid of some hard DTDs.

DTD's?

Also did you include my general portraits in this version? Just curious because I made some changes to them over time (Specifically the older ones, back when i was new to the whole thing - and Mao's face is fatter now, also made some corrections to Guderian and Himmler though I may need to redo both).
I was hoping you would have a title like the A&A: The Second Great War or something.

I was also thinking of:
A&A Enhanced
A&A Xtended
A&A Real War

in regards to DTDs:

my original working copy was over 1000 megs... so in my efforts to reduce the size as much as possible some graphics files went missing. so I had to figure out which ones were gone-- and causing the DTDs. some of the campaign maps were crashing as well.

the name for this version is already set-- but when I release a later version I might change the name. part of the reason I just stuck with it is because I have a new opening slide-show with some 20 pictures and accompanying music-- and I guess I just don't feel like changing it right now! maybe at a later time.

one of the new features is that it takes anywhere from five to ten times longer for corpses to disappear. so after a major skirmish or battle you will see a mountain of corpses and destroyed vehicles for a good 30 seconds or so. another change is that

technically I haven't "figured out" how to add a new faction. not yet. however, there is the "Forgotten Combatants" mod that I can use as a frame of reference. once I figure out all the necessary files I'm hoping that it won't be too difficult. I believe that by the end of the year I'll have a new fully operational Chinese faction for the game.

from the perspective of World War II the Chinese Communist contribution appears to have been margignal. I don't mean to dismiss their efforts-- it's just compared the Nationalist government they avoided fighting the Japanese as much as possible. they also suffered far fewer casualties and almost never launched legitimate offensives.

I figure after my break (still haven't actually taken it yet, lol)... I think it would be nice to work on a "Chinese Civil War Patch". then I could add both factions-- and they can hopefully be integrated fully into the existing WW2 mod w/o trouble.
