cool. thank you.

when it came to vehicle camoflage I had a specific image in mind-- a very famous photo of a BF109 over North Africa.

http://www.tabletop-terrain.com/stu/archives/Bf109AfrikaKorp.jpg

I just used a small version of that.

by comparison my infantry camo icon wasn't so great. so this is very nice.

yeah.

and when you want to make UI icons for the unit. the easiest way to do that is to left-click a regiment during a game. then left-click a specific unit. then you just use a screen-capture to reproduce that image. sure, it looks different from the standard unit icons-- but it's much faster than trying to make it look exactly like the original icons.

Actually, i use nifscope to do those. I just didn't feel like doing them right now. I open up one of the originals, then open the unit in nifscope and try to get the same angle. Then I make it smaller, crop it, and done. I think my download for the Maus, KV2, etc. I did a while back has the icons. When i do this, it looks exactly like the devs did it.

Oh yeah, qucik question. Do you know what control_range does? I don't think it does anything, but I could be wrong.

More free-to-use icons and the template I use (I know it looks kinda bad in the middle, but there's usually something in the middle anyway - Unless you have a better one I could use):

I'm pretty sure "control range" refers to the range at which regiments will react to the enemy. for example, regiments that are 'guarding' have a 25% increase in control range. they're more likely to react to an enemy regiment than one that's merely resting.

reading up on German radios and optical gun sights gave me some new tech ideas:

radio: would add 50% to the control/guard range. (this is something that would be available to everybody except Japan-- now that I think of it). it would give guarding regiments a longer reach in defensive positions.

improved optics: certain German optical sights allowed their tanks to accurately engage targets at much longer ranges-- this would increase attack and detection range by 5 points on certain tank units.

tanks that could qualify for this:

Panther
Tiger I
King Tiger
Sherman Firefly
Sherman (American CO tank)
Sherman Assault Gun (105 mm)
IS2
Russian tank destroyer

(the same could also be applied for snipers, now that I think of it)

Kerrison Predictor: first fully automatic fire control system for anti-aircraft weaponry-- would be used by GBR and USA-- increase attack value by 5 points (against aircraft only)

one thing I was thinking about was "improved shrapnel" of some sort-- where a piece of artillery could effect a larger area than it would otherwise be able to.

I added shrapenel to planes and the only real way of adding it would be to create a new weapon for the units affected by it.

So, what I did was create a new weapon that requires the upgrade and have to say 20 damage (Since it is in addition to the primary weapon I believe) and increase the area. This is the only way I can think of to do this as there is no upgrade option for area defined in the code.

I'll see if I can find good pics to use as these upgrades.

while working with some new Italian units I tested out the new "Improved Radio" tech.

the tech increases control range by 50%. this means that regiments will 'react' to enemy presence at longer ranges, and require less micro. base-line, non-upgraded regments tend to require micro in long distance pursuits. in the standard game I often found myself devoting a lot of micro to chasing down routing enemy regiments-- I'd have to set a chase-point far in advance of the enemy in order to allow my regiment to overtake the fleeing enemy. my idea here was that be increasing the control range that players wouldn't have to micro as much when chasing down routing enemy regiments or exploring new terrain. it also means that when regiments are holding down a position in 'guard mode' that they'll respond more quicly to enemy intrusions at longer ranges.

also tested out "Advanced Officer Training" which boosts the stats of all captain units:
+5 AV, +1 DV, +10% health, +5 morale

also created "Advanced Engineering Techniques" this evening. this allows upgraded engineers to construct new buildings at a 10% discount. this upgrade does not effect anything deployed or recruited from buildings.
