I figured out how to get the general sto show up in the WW2 campaign menu.

basically, I opened up the .tga file for the generals portrait and converted it into a .bik file with the aforementioned program. it doesn't look quite as nice as the fully animated head. but it's good enough for me

after some internet research I found this webpage, and it was able to help me get the tools I needed.

figured out that there's an upper-limit to the number of generals per faction: 10

0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

seems to be an unbreakable limit.

I've gotten 10 generals to show up in the Meta-Game lobby. however, creating a brand new faction, is alarmingly easy. so I can make a WW2-game faction, but for custom missions I can add new factions for specific armed services.

so I could always add Curtis LeMay as the "USA Army Air Force" faction. I could throw in Admiral Kurita for the "Imperial Japanese Navy" faction, and so on. don't know how to add them into the Meta-Game just yet. but it's nice to know that I can have more options for generals. the great thing is, you could easily add a bunch of British Empire generals with very little effort-- all you'd really need to do is just make a new faction "gbr#" and then you could pick generals to match the country.

I should have clarified: the limit in the WW2 Meta-Game appears to be 10 generals per faction. however, you can easily create new factions that don't show up in the Meta-Game. I created an alternate faction for the United States which currently has 11 generals featured. you can only access all of the generals with the map editor. so, it's possible to have one full set of 10 generals for the regular Meta-Game and a completely different set available for a non Meta-Game faction.

That explains it more better. But only US has 11 generals not the other countries??

been working a lot-- but I just experimented with sub-dividing the United States into three different factions.

WW2 mode:
US Army/Air Force
US Navy/Marine Corps

seems to work fine. as long as the faction isn't being used in the WW2 Meta-Game interface there doesn't appear to be the 10 general limit. I've got 14 for the US right now. have 10 for Japan. just picked out my various SS generals.

I'm pretty sure multiple factions can be integrated into the WW2 mode-- so even if you can't play as certain generals in WW2 mode it's still possible to work with or against them.

one of my disappointments with the original game was that you could have multiple nationalities on one map and it would all be commanded by the player. granted, in a way that was fun-- because you could make for some truly 'broken' armies with all of the Russian and British upgrades put together! it was fun seeing British tanks with gyro-stabilized gun tech and SAS with marksmanship training, lol!

but it would probably be more interesting if you could have multiple AI nationalities working together to win battles. I've seen this done with other mods so I'm going to try and tackle that later.

Yeah, I'm still around. I have been doing stuff around the house, so I haven't had much time to do much modding lately. Plus, I am starting school Wednesday, so that will be a big change again.

finally found some decent color pictures of chinese generals... if you had to keep it down to just four-- good to go with Chiang kai Shek, Li Zongren, Mao, and Zhu De. fortunately there are color pictures for all of those guys. I'm pretty content with just replacing the background picture with a still shot... but if you're feeling ambitious-- these are probably the best color photos I could find for that nation.

Excellent, now I can do more Chinese generals. I had all but given up on them, given that I could not find much.

Well, its a good site, but all I have found so far are more black and white photos. And the time I spend going through this site, I could be modding new units. Therefore, it would really help if you could help and find colored photos.

At this point, since the game limit for generals is ten per faction (According to Gizmotron), I will probably do ten animated faces per original faction (For a total of thirty new faces - 5x6), but still five for the new factions (Italy, France, China - 15 new ones). I just have to get around to it. Right now I'm really getting far with new units, so I'm going to stick with that for now.

I'm not picky. I have Mussolini, but that's all. Anyone you can find is fine. I am looking to have five generals in all, so try to find four, if you can.

I spent a good chunk of time looking for photos of Italian generals-- and I gotta say-- you're probably not going to find many. I daresay you will never find a good color photograph of these guys. you'll probably have to settle for black-and-white and colorize them to get the effect that you want. so, if you can find a good frontal B&W photo post it here. otherwise, I think you'll be in for some trouble.

these are the only half-way decent photos I've found of Italian admirals/generals

some of this required searching through web pages that were exclusively in Italian! Martinat was killed in the same battle where Reverberi scored his greatest triumph-- the Battle of Nikolayevka-- which might be one of the very few times the Italians actually defeated the Russians! for that feat alone I'm planning on including both of these guys.

I don't read or speak Italian-- so that might be the best I can come up with for now.
