Yeah, they have to be colored. The easiest ones to find were the Russians, they seem to like taking pictures.

Italy and China are a pain. And if you can find one for a German admiral somewhere, then +rep for you.

try making them black-and-white. I'll look into adding color afterwards.

I looked at seeing any options in Abobe for changing pic from b/w to color, but I did not see anything obvious. Do you know of any tricks? If there was a way, my life would be a whole lot easier.

to my knowledge there is no easy way to add color to black-and-white photographs. one of the biggest problems is realizing the type of film being used-- and then knowing how to interpret which color most likely corresponds to what shade of gray! I've seen people get into some astonishing debates about whether the airplane in a black-and-white photo was actually 'red' or 'green'!

I've never used Adobe Photoshop-- but I do use Paint.net. and if worst-comes-to-worst I have a drafting table, overhead lamps and thousands of pages of paper with the requisite colored pencils. it wouldn't be the first time I've drawn somebody's face.

the trick is by adding layers with transparent or semi-transparent qualities. in this manner you can add layers of color over the existing image without destroying any of the details.

here are some web-links that may/may not help.

http://emptyeasel.com/2008/04/29/how-to-add-color-to-black-and-white-photos-in-photoshop/

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/42066/how-to-colorize-black-and-white-vintage-photographs-in-photoshop/

speaking of making life easier-- this is the main reason why I suggested that you could make them in black-and-white. then I could grab them off the website and colorize them as time allows. I've got plenty of reference material for all of the various uniforms used by each nation-- so adding color to a black-and-white photo shouldn't be TOO difficult. just time consuming.

I looked at these this weekend. There are a couple generals, including all the Italian ones, that have only b/w pics that are vital to any mod. If not, I'll do them in b/w.

well, after doing more research on Japan I realized that I wanted to "change horses". I decided to ditch Hiromichi Yahara from the roster of 8 generals available in the WW2 mode. although he was very important for the invasion of Okinawa-- I found another general who makes more sense for the WW2 mode roster.

General Shojiro Iida. this was the man responsible for rapidly advancing through Thailand and French Indo-China. He also inflicted a series of humiliating defeats against the British in Burma and cut off China's last life-line to the Western Allies by severing the Burma Road. He also served in Manchuria as the Russians launched their late-war Blitzkrieg against Japanese-occupied Manchuria.

I think Matsui is an obvious choice for Japan as well (You don't have him on your list).

He led the Japanese forces at the Battle of Shanghai and Nanjing.

I was planning on using him as a special campaign general-- but since he was more or less out of action for most of WW2 proper-- I didn't want to include him in the WW2 mode. unlike Li Zongren, who was still technically active but placed out of the way for most of the war-- Matsui actually retired in 1938-- and as such I wasn't going to use him in WW2 mode. definitely planned on using him some campaign maps. another reason to pick Iida as the regular campaign general is because he looks more like Matsui than Yahara does. Wink

It would, but notice how one side of the face is really bright and the other isn't = bad.

For Mussilini, I am going to try this pic.
