For my mod, I was thinking of doing some things to simulate WWII.

Currently, the US stands as the strongest faction, with Germany being the weakest. I feel this is historically inaccurate.

Germany and Japan should be awesome in the early game (Considering how they were clearly winning in the early days of wwii), do decent mid-game (upgrades), and suck late-game (other nations tech advances).

The US, British, Russia should be the opposite. Suck early-game, but late-game own everyone.

So I will use techs to simulate this. Allies have the weakest units without upgrades, while Germany/Japan have the strongest starting units (Maybe Italy as well), but lack good upgrades to keep up (Save for things like jet engines). Plus Germany recovered from the Great Depression before any other nation, so they should also have a good starting economy.

I also want to make regiments smaller. They take up way too much space. I'm thinking infantry should be 2 by 3 and tank regiments should be different. Artillery tanks should be the co tank and four artillery tanks, for example. No more suuport units for them.

Do you think this is a good idea or should I keep things the same?

But shouldn't it be better if that is in single player mode rather than multiplayer?

I don't think we can realistically 'simulate' WW2 in this game. if such were the case the defeat of Germany and Japan at the start of the game would be a fore-gone conclusion. they would ALWAYS lose. time, numbers, and economy are against them. there's no such thing as a negotiated peace in this game--

consider the fact that in this game if a regiment is reduced to a single unit-- but if that unit survives, the regiment can regenerate itself and retrain all of it's expereince points, gained attributes, and the like. in reality-- if a regiment was nearly annihilated it would often never recover. in this game it's possible for a regiment to suffer 50 percent casualties and NOT disolve into uncontrolled panic! this doesn't reflect history or reality in the least bit.

I've read dozens of regimental histories where elite fighting units were utterly broken in fruitless attacks or harrowing defensive actions-- and that these units never regained their fighting spirit. again, not possible with the game as it stands.

what I'd rather do is eliminate some of the obvious flaws in game-play.

I've already come up with several was of eliminating the Recon Rush:

1. easiest fix, increase the cost of the Recon Infantry Regiment to $30. this eliminates the economic incentive-- might as well go straight to regular infantry

2. decrease the number of units (tried this, but it influences some of the campaign games

3. replace regular infantry with recon infantry
a. give recon infantry lower health
b. give recon infantry rifles, no grenades
c. give recon infantry a defense value of 0

4. increase the power of machine guns (if machine guns give regular infantry regiments a huge firepower advantage over recons, it would be suicidal to rush infantry regimetns with recons)

5. remove the recruitment at full strength feature.

I've tried all of the above-- and I've ultimately decided that a mixture of 1 and 4 is my favorite option.

this doesn't interfere with campaign missions-- eliminates the main advantage of spamming recons, and means that you only recruit them to steal lightly defended cities or to help you bombard targets at long range.

* * * * *

basically, we could go over the tried-and-true methods that people use to win every game, and then create a new gaming world where these won't be a guarantee of success. like coming up with a variety of ways to counter Heavy Tank or AT-Mech spam.

For recon infantry, I did kinda what you suggested a long time ago. They don't start at full strnegth either (I like how the regiments build up).

I also renamed things. Rather than everything being a "regiment", infantry have platoons, airborne companies, tank brigades, and I kept regiments for mechs. This adds some diversity, I think.
