The tank stage is the last and most difficult stage in Axis and Allies. It requires the most micro, because not only do you have to control a plethora of units in the field, but you have to defend your base from para drops and bomber planes.....

although not really in the armor stage(should have been in mech stage Imho) I voted for my beloved Tankettes. it really takes skill to just survive with them, even more to also actually deal damage! also being a very unique unit on the battlefield makes it all the more satisfying to use against unwary opponents and really catch them off guard |

Flame tanks are the most fun to use because they chew away the morale of all units. They are fast enough to run away after a bomb, and they can sometimes survive double carpet bombs. I am not sure who uses double carpets because it is stupid. |

in SP (and that's all I play right now) I find that rather than purchasing mechanized AA units it's sometimes better to get an AA tank regiment.
the reason being, is that the AA regiments are useless for defending my base. if the only aircraft threat is being posed by a single aircraft carrier, I'd rather build a couple of AA bunkers.
I could build 5 of them for the price of one AA mech regiment!
additionally, these bunkers are more durable than the half-tracks and can help slow advancing enemy formations.
when there's a 20 unit limit I find it's worth my time to save up for the more versatile regiment.
if I purchase an AA regiment it usually ends up being an AA tank regiment-- which can provide mobile protection for any offensive formation. the light tanks are more than adequate to fight off most infantry and mech regiments. if I park them near my HQ they can rack up experience points pretty quickly. if the AA half-tracks are engaging enemy recons (which are incessant during some games) then this regiment is constantly racking up experience points. none of my regiments seem to become "Elite" quite as quickly as these units!
After this regiment has gained Veteran status I'll consider using them as 'escort' for deep probing attacks against the enemy. pairing them up with heavy armour or artillery regiments to crush enemy structures.
no, the AA tank is not my favorite tank regiment, but since it wasn't mentioned I thought I'd try and play "Devil's Advocate".
I also love using the Maskirova or Panzer Hohle for "fighting recon" work. I'll drop it in a spot where I'm pretty sure enemy bunkers or supply depots will be and have them illuminate the country side. this ability to have them "teleport" wherever you want them to makes them invaluable recon devices. |

I haven't played multiplayer in forever, but offline I find arties to be the most useful. I just stick them behind some heavy tanks and watch them steal all the kills. I only do this as Russia, I would do this as Germany, but I can't stand Germany |

Heres the fair thing about Germany, , Russia, Japan, and Britain. Britain, , Japan, and Russia all have 3 spots in there tank tents. While Germany gets 4. A reason because its fair is all the otehr countrys get the military surplus, while germany gets nothing. This gives and them less time to build more tanks but germany takes more time, but get 1 more spot. This can give um a super advantage if u dont take ur time advantage, trust me, iv had a battle, we won but the germany guy got so many forces, it took almost 3 of us to hold him off. (only 2 of us had to luckily or wed be killed because 2 others were attacking and one was bugging us below at our bases). |

Artillery tanks rule!! but if you are Germany you are in for luck the King Tiger tanks also rule the tank arena. What if Japan had mechanical reliability and gyrostabilized tank guns. Their artillery tanks would be the number 1 if that happened but their resources of surrounding areas during World War II made them limited of their resources. Actually Germany takes longer time to produce tanks because of their weak economy of the Armor HQ, unless you have tank production which would be a late game. Japan, Britain, US, and Russia have a better opportunity of producing tanks faster than
Germany. |
