Kesselring was one of the most notable commanders of Germany’s air forces during World War II, commanding an air fleet in the Battle of Britain, and also supported Barbarrosa in Russia and Rommel’s operations in North Africa. His last command was spent in a largely successful twenty month defense of Italy.
