Ivan
Konev participated throughout the war on the eastern front. He counter-attacked the German forces as they pushed into Russia in 1941, helped push them back from Moscow, and eventually led the first Soviet army to reach German soil. During the post-war period, he became Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet ground forces, First Deputy Minister of Defense, and Commander-in-Chief of the Warsaw Pact armed forces.
