Nimitz

Chester William Nimitz rose through the ranks of the navy, having served mainly in submarines during his early career, to become a full Admiral in 1941 and Fleet Admiral (five-star admiral) in 1945. During the war, he commanded the US Pacific Fleet, and accepted Japan’s formal surrender aboard the USS Missouri in 1945.
