AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Conscript Infantry
"Conscription is a general term for involuntary labor demanded by an established authority."
Conscription has been called by many names, such as "the draft" and "national service", but in the harsh conditions on the eastern front, many times it amounted to little more than military slavery. In some extreme cases, conscription regiments comprised of POW's and civilian criminals were forced, at gunpoint, to clear minefields by marching in formation through them.
Conscripts were usually poorly trained, and at times lacked proper equipment; relying on improvised weaponry such as the
molotov cocktail .
The large scale conscription Russia used during WW2 bought them precious time through sheer manpower, at a high cost of human lives. Russia has received criticism for these tactics, and as of March 2009 is considering outlawing criticism of Soviet military tactics during the Second World War.
AXIS and ALLIES RTS | When to use Conscript Infantry?
Conscripts are one of the "spam" regiments within A&A, the only chance they have at success comes in large numbers. At only $35 they offer the cheapest way to get infantry units on the field of battle (each conscript regiment has 9 units, compared to recon 5)
Conscript Unit
health = 150
defense = 0
speed-max = 3
recharge-time = 3
DamageArmorPierce
amount = 8
range = 10
Grenade = molotov
recharge-time = 20
FireDamageEffect
amount = 10
Infantry Unit
health = 200
defense = 1
speed-max = 2.5
recharge-time = 3
DamageArmorPierce
amount = 10
range = 12
Grenade
BlastDamageEffect
amount = 20
Conscripts may be cheap to deploy, but they are also one of the weakest units in the game. Better have a 3 to 1 advantage versus anything other than recon, if you want any chance of success. This means the window of opportunity for conscripts is very small, you must work quickly! The only real combat advantage they possess is the molotov cocktail , as no units have any resistance to fire damage.
AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Molotov Cocktail
The most common I.E.D. of WW2, the Molotov cocktail came in many forms, but usually was as simple as a glass bottle containing flamable liquid, with a rag or wick in the bottle opening. Some versions used a chemical reaction (see left) instead of actually lighting a wic/rag.
As incendiary devices, Molotov cocktails are illegal to manufacture or possess in many regions. In the United States, Molotov cocktails are considered "destructive devices" and regulated by the ATF. Apparently in some countries they encourage you to throw them at the police station :) -->
AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Conscript Infantry Conclusion
Conscript - They are a weaker form of the normal infantry with less defense and less attack damage. Sometimes they are used as
spams against sniper countries because they are nearly as cheap as recons but include more units per squad (which allows them to survive more sniper hits), but such an attack requires too much
micro , which makes it an unlikely choice of attack.
Whatever you choose to deploy, it's up to you as commander to put your forces in an advantageous position with an understanding of
base resistances ,
terrain modifiers ,
formation ,
upgrades ,
special ops ,
military tactics , and more.
