This is guide is intended to only briefly highlight the main types of attacks
Infantry is the earliest, and most important stage of the game. Time is of the essence. You must micro and eco efficiently and effectively. Every advantage you get in the Infantry stage of the game will dramatically help you in the Mech and Tank stages. This stage is sometimes skipped in high money games, where the game play instantly begins at the Mech, or even Tank stage. Sometimes players do not even feel like attacking with infantry and decide just to eco up until they can engage in the Mech stage.
Depending on what country you use, your available options towards approaching battle will differ. The general infantry strategies most countries have available to them are listed below.
All Countries
Infantry - Typically, the build order for infantry will be 2-3 infantry tents, and then
spam as much infantry as you can. After you get a formidable amount of infantry out (roughly 5-6+), tech them up and battle away while keeping your units in supply. Also, if
microed VERY efficiently, you can outnumber snipers or mechs and kill them. Generally though, you will never want to make infantry if your opponent has snipers or generals with bombs as your casualty loss with be dramatic.
Recon - Typically, the build order for recons will be 3-4 tents, and then
spam as many recons as you want. The plus of this approach is that you gain experience points fast, which helps if you have a general with a bomb. Also, recons route fast, hence, making their retreat process easier since most of it is automatic. Because they only have 5 units per squad, they will heal faster than a typical 11-unit infantry squad. Recons are the only units that come out from tents with full health, so if your base ever gets ambushed, recon
spams will often buy you some time during infantry-mech stages. Due to the cheap cost of recons, they are the ideal choice against countries with bombs. However, recons should never be used against snipers. Their 5-men squad makes them an easy target for snipers to wipe out fast.
Mortar - Known as the “moral killer”, their main duty is not to kill units, but to route them so that they cannot engage in combat and to paralyze them as a consequent of having 0 morale. Once paralyzed, those units make easy targets to kill because they cannot retreat. Japan has the most efficient mortars because the typical mortar unit does 0.75 morale damage while a Japanese mortar unit does 1 morale damage. Upgrade these mortar units with faster attack speeds when you can, they'll help a lot.
Heavy Airborne - They do the same thing a typical mortar squad, but less efficiently. However, their slower morale kill rate (because they only have 1 mortar per squad) is compensated by their 2 defense. Heavy airborne are typically only ideal with Japan, due to their cheap cost of heavy airborne unit. Their units only cost 75, compared to the typical 100. Heavy airborne is the most ideal infantry choice when fighting mechs.
Great Britain
SAS - They are the strongest infantry against all infantry and the second strongest infantry against mechs. Along with having 2 sniper units in their squad, SAS has a 2 defense, which differs from the typical 1 defense of most infantry. Their armor can even be upgraded to 3 defense for even more durability. This upgrade is a must have when going against mechs.
Russia
Sniper - Like SAS, they are great against infantry. They're cheaper than SAS by 25 and can be created from a normal infantry tent instead of an airborne tent, which allows for the creation of more units per tent than SAS for Great Britain. They are not as effective as SAS against mechs due to their weaker defense.
Conscript - They are a weaker form of the normal infantry with less defense and less attack damage. Sometimes they are used as spams against sniper countries because they are nearly as cheap as recons but include more units per squad (which allows them to survive more sniper hits), but such an attack requires too much
micro, which makes it an unlikely choice of attack.
Japan
Commando - Are like recon units with one sniper . These guys are great against infantry, and against mechs if
spammed right. However, they must be
microed VERY well in order to be effective against sniper infantry or mechs. They are the ideal choice if you have a general with a bomb or your opponent has a general with a bomb because they are cheap to create, and as a result, easier to
spam.
