AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Banzai Infantry
In the late stages of WW2, Japan had a variety of suicide weapons and tactics, which were delivered in many different ways, including air, ground, and sea. The kamikaze where the most famous, sacrificing their life as they guided their planes into enemy warships; but there where also many other lesser-known suicide troops. The Fukuryu suicide scuba divers, Shinyo suicide boats, Kairyu midget submarines, Kaiten human torpedo, and the Ohka rocket powered flying bomb are just a few examples. Infantry versions could be as simple as strapping an anti-tank mine to your chest, or other varieties that were attached to poles.

Banzai Attack
Although banzai and kamikaze attacks are often seen in the same light, there is a distinct difference. Kamikaze attacks were suicide attacks, and while the banzai charge may have been considered suicidal, it still offered some hope of survivability for the combatants. The banzai attack also fit well with Japanese military doctrine, which was influenced by the Bushido (Way of the Warrior). Bushido was the Samurai code of conduct, dating back to the 9th century, which stressed loyalty, combat mastery, and honor until death. To many, surrendering was a fate worse than death.
AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Banzai Airborne or Banzai Infantry?
Any type of banzai infantry and/or airborne is not recommended for everyday online play. However, if you insist on deploying some type of Banzai, the infantry version is the better choice.

Para Banzai

APDamageEffect

All banzai units will only use their suicide weapon on vehicles. Considering airborne is often used to attack buildings, that's a good reason not to use banzai for para-drops.
The infantry version costs less $75 and features twice as many banzai units (4). Although the banzai infantry unit has slightly weaker health, it's main attack has the same damage.
AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Meaning of Banzai
The meaning of "Banzai" has been misunderstood by the western world, as it simply means "ten thousand years", essentially wishing for something or someone to have eternal life. Before a "banzai charge" cries such as "Tennoheika banzai!" (May the Emperor reign for ten thousand years) became mistakenly associated with the attack itself, and hence the modern western definition of the banzai attack/charge was born.
AXIS and ALLIES RTS | Banzai Infantry Conclusion
Banzai infantry can really only be successful in coordination with other types of troops. By themselves they are too weak versus any type of infantry (especially sniper based), and not strong enough against vehicles; not to mention too slow to chase down routed regiments for the kill. Probably would be best as a defensive support force using a tactic such as
leapfrogging , keeping the banzai entrenched in a city or heavily forested area, and in the zone of supply. We would only recommend experienced players to experiment with banzai, and even then it's questionable.
Whatever you choose to deploy, it's up to you as commander to put your forces in an advantageous position with an understanding of
base resistances ,
terrain modifiers ,
formation ,
upgrades ,
special ops ,
military tactics , and more.
