Armor > Artillery Tank Regiment Axis and Allies RTS
Artillery Tank Regiment

The artillery tank regiment is the dominate force in the late-game, and therefore one of the most important regiments to master and understand.

"The tank stage is the last and most difficult stage in Axis and Allies. It requires the most micro, because not only do you have to control a plethora of units in the field, but you have to defend your base from para drops and bomber planes." [more basic strategy]

The Artillery Tank Regiment is at it's strongest when used for indirect engagements, by bombarding the enemy from a distance. Not only does it put your units further from harm, but also has devastating effects on enemy morale. It is also important for all players to understand a basic concept of bombarding, Splash Bombardment [see below]

Artillery Tank Regiment
All Artillery Tank regiments consist of:
[1] Command Tank
[3] Support Units
[2] Arty Tank Units
Every country except Japan has Light Tanks as support vehicles (Japan has Medium Tanks).

Time take take a detailed look at one of the most important regiments in A&A. When comparing any regiment you must consider the differences of the various units present in each regiment, and any upgrades that may help them on the battlefield. So here's the basic stats of Support Units, Command Units, and Arty Tank Units, followed by a Comparison of Arty Units.

UnOfficial Regiment Ranks
The research and data is all in, and after years of tesing and analysis here's our UnOfficial Regiment Ranks for the Axis and Allies RTS Artillery Tank Regiment... from first to worst

Solid support and command units, the best arty tank units, and all the best upgrades: Long Range Artillery, Improved Fire Control, Gyrostabilized Tank Guns, and Mechanical Reliability.
Support Units |  Command Units |  Arty Tank Units

Don't underestimate the power of the Improved Fire Control upgrade, which allows your artillery to bombard 5 times, to your opponents 4. The German Artillery Tank is missing Long Range Artillery and Mechanical Reliability, but has a couple unique upgrades: Schurzen and Advanced Armor Training
Support Units |  Command Units |  Arty Tank Units

Strong support and command units, and arties with the best health and defense value. The Russian Artillery Tank is missing Improved Fire Control, but at least has Long Range Artillery.
Support Units |  Command Units |  Arty Tank Units

Considering the strength of Improved Fire Control, Britian could been ranked much higher; but the relatively weak units across the board keeps them just ahead of Japan.
Support Units |  Command Units |  Arty Tank Units

Since Japan has no heavy tanks, Arties are their only option for the armor stage of the game. Japanese arties do have the unique advantage of having Medium Tanks as support vehicles (all other countries have Light Tanks), so they are better at direct engagement than bombarding.
Support Units |  Command Units |  Arty Tank Units

Bombardment
Bombardment is an attack by artillery fire directed against fortifications, troops, towns, and/or buildings. It allows your forces to stand-off and attack the enemy from a distance, the benefits of which are obvious.

Bombarding can break your opponents will to fight, and effect the moral of targeted regiments, which can be key in determining who wins and loses any given battle.

It is important all players understand a couple simple techniques....
Selective Targeting
When you attack an enemy you are usually facing them, unless you are flanking, or chasing retreating units.. If you attack the regiment by simply clicking on it, your forces will automatically attack the closest units; usually the support vehicles in the front... That is, unless you can bombard!

In Artillery vs Artillery battles it is important to target the strongest units of the regiment, the artillery units in the back.

This is done by Splash Bombardment....
Splash Bombarding
Even when using the bombard command, if you attack the regiment by simply clicking on it, your forces will automatically attack the closest units. The trick to be able to target the units in the back, is to target the ground between them.

Any units within the target area will be given "splash damage"

This technique can be applied to fighting single, or groups of regiments, as well as attacking a variety of different targets.

Bombard Away!!

In Conclusion
While there are many small differences by country in the artillery tank regiment, every country can still be successful with this regiment. Japanese and Russian arties are better at pushing than bombarding, and the opposite can be said of British arties. Mixing heavy tanks with German and Russian arties can be a powerful combo, and of course USA arties are the best at bombarding, and are excellent when combined with airpower.
