WARNING WARNING!: Deploying Artillery Mech is a gamble! Artillery Mech are very vulnerable to any of the special op bombs, and will likely be killed by a single, well placed/timed bomb.

That being said, try to avoid bunching too many together, as in the example in to the right -> [click for more]

The Artillery Halftrack Regiment is a good counter for all types of infantry, and is good at indirect engagements, by bombarding the enemy for a distance. The Artillery Halftrack Regiment is NOT good at directly engaging AT Mech and Armor, or surviving "getting bombed".

Artillery Halftrack Regiment
All artillery halftrack regiments consist of [1] armored command car, [4] halftracks, and [2] artillery halftracks, regardless of country, as demonstrated in the example of the Japanese Arty Mech regiment below. For those unfamiliar with the information panel, mouseover the image below for more info:

We took a moment on our Halftrack Regiment page to examine the halftrack unit, now it's time to break-down the artillery halftrack unit..

Taking a quick look at the artillery halftrack unit you can see Japan once again has the lowest defense value. USA has a 25% higher attack value than the other countries, but aside from that stats are all the same regardless of nation.

All Artillery Halftrack Units:
[speed-max 4.5][range 44][recharge-time 9][max-targets 8][MoraleLossEffect .75]

When it comes to the overall power of the regiments of the various nations, you must consider who has the important upgrades Long Range Artillery, Improved Fire Control, Improved Machine Guns, and Mechanical Reliability. For a complete analysis of upgrades see our Guide to Upgrading Arty Mech

UnOfficial Regiment Ranks
The research and data is all in, and after years of tesing and analysis here's our UnOfficial Regiment Ranks for the Axis and Allies RTS Halftrack Regiment... from first to worst
Although you rarely see USA Arty Mech, probably due to the strength of USA AT Mech, they are actually the strongest in the game. The best halftrack unit, the best artillery halftrack unit, all the best upgrades, and special ops such as mechanized advance... need we say more?

Not seen all that often due to the strength of SaS infantry (don't need to counter infantry with arty mech), they are actually the second strongest in the game. One of the best halftrack units, the second best artillery halftrack unit, all the best upgrades, and special ops such as fighting spirit... need we say more?

German halftracks are only missing mechanical reliability, but aside from that can compete with those of Great Britian and the United States. The German Artillery Halftrack is missing Long Range Artillery, but at least has Improved Fire Control

Not seen all that often due to the strength of Sniper infantry (don't need to counter infantry with arty mech), Russian halftracks have the lowest attack value, but at least have the mechanical reliability upgrade. Also missing the important improved machine guns upgrade. The Russian Artillery Halftrack is missing Improved Fire Control, but at least has Long Range Artillery.

Japanese halftracks have the lowest defense value and second lowest attack value, leaving them with the weakest halftracks in the game. Also missing the important improved machine guns upgrade. The Japanese Artillery Halftrack has the lowest defense value and also is missing Improved Fire Control, but at least has Long Range Artillery.

Bombardment
Bombardment is an attack by artillery fire directed against fortifications, troops, towns, and/or buildings. It allows your forces to stand-off and attack the enemy from a distance, the benefits of which are obvious.

Bombarding can break your opponents will to fight, and effect the moral of targeted regiments, which can be key in determining who wins and loses any given battle.

It is important all players understand a couple simple techniques....
Selective Targeting
When you attack an enemy you are usually facing them, unless you are flanking, or chasing retreating units.. If you attack the regiment by simply clicking on it, your forces will automatically attack the closest units; usually the support vehicles in the front... That is, unless you can bombard!

In Artillery vs Artillery battles it is important to target the strongest units of the regiment, the artillery units in the back.

This is done by Splash Bombardment....
Splash Bombarding
Even when using the bombard command, if you attack the regiment by simply clicking on it, your forces will automatically attack the closest units. The trick to be able to target the units in the back, is to target the ground between them.

Any units within the target area will be given "splash damage"

This technique can be applied to fighting single, or groups of regiments, as well as attacking a variety of different targets.

Bombard Away!!

In Conclusion
The Artillery Halftrack regiment does have some uses in the game, but is not recommended if facing multiple special op bombs. Keep in mind, extra micro will be required to keep your regiments spread out unless your opponent has no bombs... New players may want to avoid the regiment for that reason. For more info see our Axis and Allies General Strategies | Mechanized
