NATIONS: German Strategy and Generals
GERMANY
Strengths
1. AT Mech: Arguably the strongest Anti Tank Mech regiment in the game. The Jagdpanther and it's 88mm Gun inflict a punishing 100 attack value when fully upgraded, making it the best Tank Destroyer in the game hands down. Good available upgrades, only missing Mechanical Reliability, but Germany also has a couple of unique upgrades, Advanced Armor Training and Schurzen which help make up for this. Decent halftracks that possess the important Improved Machine Guns upgrade. The challenge with Germany is surviving the infantry stage of the game, and deploying enough of them with their weak economy. Played correctly, Germany can be a dominate force during the Mech Stage of the game.

2. Armor: Whether Heavy Tank, King Tiger Tank, or the underrated German Arty Tank, Germany has some of the finest armor in the game. The challenge with Germany is to get to the armor stage of the game, due to their weak economy.

ARMOR: German Armor | Spotting a King Tiger
GERMANY
German Armor | Spotting a King Tiger

At first glance the icons for the German Heavy Tank and German King Tiger Tank look pretty similar and are a little hard to distinguish. When scouting the enemy, it is important to be able to determine their strength, which can be done easily by looking at the units themselves. The differences you will see are historically accurate, and easy to spot once you know what you are looking for. Pictured to the far left is the German Heavy Tank (Tiger I) and beside it is the German King Tiger (Tiger II)

Notice the King Tiger has several differences:
  • Sloped Frontal Armor
  • Better "skirt" armor on the sides to protect treads
  • Larger 88mm Gun
  • The Porche Turret
  • Different Hatch Location
  • "Iron Cross" logo on front
The German Heavy Tank is incorrectly labeled in Axis and Allies RTS as Panzer VI Ausf. B which is actually a Tiger II, or King Tiger Tank. The more accurate labeling would be Panzer VI Ausf. E (original designation was PzKpfw VI Ausf. H and was redesignated as Panzer VI Ausf. E in 1943) or Tiger I.

SPECIAL OPS: Paper Tanks | The Grab and Go
GERMANY

The Real Paper Tank: Fake tanks were built by many of the nations involved in WW2. Local craftsmen would obtain whatever supplies were available to construct them (often plywood with a tree for a cannon). These were used to trick enemy troops and command, and at times they were placed as a trap. Units moving forward to engage the "Fake Tanks" would be flanked from another direction. Not much information available as to their effectiveness.

The German Panzer Holhe (or Russian Maskirovka) - commonly refered to as a "Paper Tank" (or "Fake Tank"), produces a single, unattached medium tank regiment. Although it is often the subject of jokes, the Paper Tank does actually have some practical applications in online mulitplayer gameplay. Annoy your enemies by stealing their cities and destroying their tech buildings, or even blocking their retreat. Possibly the most powerful use is a technique we'll call the....
