A&A Infantry
Infantry can play a key role to your early game success in Axis and Allies online play. Vital in many ways, such as to capture and hold cities early, preventing your enemies from "Eco Whoring", gaining experience for your special ops, as well as defending your own base, or outright defeating your enemies. To be victorious you must learn the stats, matchups, builds, and more.
A&A Airborne
WW2 paratroopers were military units, deployed by aircraft, usually inserted behind enemy lines by parachute. Paratroopers offer a couple of unique tactical advantages, as they can reach deep into enemy territory, and in doing so are able to evade enemy troops and fortifications that would interfere with a land-based force. Paratroopers can be used to establish an airhead that can become a staging point for an advance, or simply to weaken enemy defenses by performing commando raids, and causing them to defend more territory.
A&A Mechanized HQ
The static trench warfare battles of WWI were over, and with the emergence of the tank, maneuver warfare had returned to the battlefield. Commanders once again needed a "cavalry", and the halftrack was a perfect fit. Infantry and supplies had to keep up with the advancing armor, and the halftrack was adapted and reconfigured to perform a variety of tasks.
A&A Armored HQ
Great Britian changed the tactics of warfare forever, when they introduced the first tank during WWI. Altough very slow and fraught with mechanical and safety issues, tanks were the perfect counter to the static battles of trench warfare... Which had cost millions of lives, without either side being able to gain a significant advantage.
A&A Airpower
Airpower in Axis and Allies RTS can play a very benefitial role in securing victory, however, like many aspects of the game, it must be used at the right time and place; and possibly by the right country. USA and Great Britian have the most versatile airpower, good at destroying either structures or regiments; and the economy to support it. Use of Japanese and Russian airpower is usually late game versus enemy units; and German airpower is rarely seen due to their weak economy.
Lead any one of the five WWII super-powers, each with their own unique and authentic weapons and capabilities. Test your mettle against the greatest generals and leaders from the era, including Rommel, Eisenhower, Yamamoto, Zhukov and Montgomery.
Terrain | Axis & Allies RTS
Victory will go to those whom best understand and utilize terrain to their advantage, for example, by occupying benefitial terrain, or forcing the enemy to fight from poor terrain. When exploited properly, terrain also can be used to help corner, outflank, or surround your enemies.
Learn how to use terrain to your advantage using different types of units. The basic idea will always be: Fight from beneficial terrain, force your opponents into poor terrain, or hopefully both!
Oil and Ammo | Axis & Allies RTS It is essential to maintain positive accrual levels of ammo and oil at all times! Dipping into the "red" for even a short time will come with severe monitary penalties.
If you run out of money while in negative oil and/or ammo production, the Bleeding icon will appear at the top of the screen, and your units will suffer from Upkeep Shortage, which means that they will take damage when out of supply. If your units "flash red" retreat to your zone of supply immediately, or they will die!
Be Kind to your Economy. Unless it's an emergency, always make sure to have enough ammo and oil for the regiments you deploy BEFORE you deploy them.
Economy | Axis & Allies RTS One of the most important aspects of Axis and Allies RTS. Many times in-game situations will largely control how you develop your Economy... If you are planning an early game infantry push, or your base is located in the front, you might spend more on regiments and less on the HQ's (which bolster your economy). If you have plans on really getting your economy going, or your base is located in the back, you might spend more on HQ's and less on your armed forces.
However, as always, make sure to grab nearby or crucial cities, and don't leave your teamates hanging if they need your support on the front lines.
Most in-game tasks can be performed with the mouse, but many of these tasks can be accomplished more efficiently by using keyboard shortcuts. We simplified the keyboard, and grouped the keys by color to give you a better idea of the layout. Includes dynamic mouse-over information for all the important game actions.
Although it is important to master your keyboard shortcuts, many of the important game tasks and actions can be handled via the mouse.
The left click is used for selecting structures and regiments. It can also be used for action commands but the action must be selected first. In most cases it is easier to use the right click for actions. The Right Click is used for actions such as Move, Attack, and Deploy To.

A&A Upgrades
Upgrades can make the difference in many aspects of Axis and Allies, but players must first understand the benefits of the various upgrades, and learn which ones to get first, and which ones to skip.
The upgrades which any given player will research, depends mostly three basic factors: General/Country, Game Situation, and Regiments Deployed. Several upgrade guides, one for each of the most common types of regiments deployed
Special Ops are part of the most specific and focused strategies that exhist within A&A. Experienced players will alter their strategies to take advantage of their special ops. For example, the special ops of Konev are all well suited for the infantry stage of the game, so a player using Konev may be tempted to go for an infantry rush early.
The special ops available to any given general are located on the Special Operations bar, and can be used as long as they are not "grayed out".. It is up to you to know when and how to use them for greatest effect. In most cases that means saving your EXP for your most powerful special ops, and only using your lesser special ops in game changing or emergency situations.
Taking time to learn the strongest special ops of all the generals will help you quickly size up the strengths, and possible strategies, of not only your opponents; but your allies as well. See Counting Bombs for more info. Learn More: Special Ops
AXIS & ALLIES
A&A Basic Strategy Axis & Allies, like many other RTS's, is all about economy (eco for short) and efficient control (micro for short) of fighting units. It'd be unwise to presuppose that both aspects of the game are equally as important in Axis & Allies because micro is a bit more important than eco. You can make all the money you want and buy whatever unit you want, but if you do not know how to efficiently handle them, winning will be a tough feat, if not impossible.
What makes micro even more crucial to master, opposed to eco, is that in Axis & Allies, your units can heal themselves automatically (as long as they are in supply range). This means that your units can be infinitely recycled for battle. The fewer units you lose, the less money you need to spend on them and as a result, you can spend more money on improving your eco.

Military Tactics Military tactics entail the management and maneuvering of forces to capture objectives and/or defeat the enemy. Tactics must be adapted to the current conditions, and are chosen with regard to the size and type of forces available; taking into account the size and strength of enemy forces. Other important factors in determining tactics are logistics, terrain, reconnaissance, and the likely tactics of the enemy.

WW2 Propaganda
Propaganda is a message aimed at serving an agenda. Even if the message conveys true information, it may be partisan and fail to paint a complete and balanced picture.
"No amount of genius spent on the creation of propaganda will lead to success if a fundamental principle is not forever kept in mind. Propaganda must confine itself to very few points, and repeat them endlessly. Here, as with so many things in this world, persistence is the first and foremost condition of success."Adolf Hitler

We hope to provide players, new and old, with a wealth of Axis and Allies related content and information; as well as a friendly place for the entire A&A community to gather and sound off, in a polite way of course. We've done our best to breakdown every relevant aspect of the game, and have related forum threads so that YOU can contribute to this growing online Axis and Allies RTS reference. Maybe you might even learn something yourself.. If you've played the game the last 5 years, or only the last 5 days, we think we have something to offer everyone

A&A RTS: The Game and The Community
Axis & Allies RTS (2004)
So why do a strategy gaming site for a game that's
old? Many Reasons, most notably The Game and The Community
Quick History: Axis and Allies Real Time Strategy, developed by Timegate and first distributed by Atari in late 2004. Axis and Allies was released at a rough time in Atari company history, and any thoughts of patches or expansions never came to pass. To the best of our knowledge new copies are no longer being pressed, although many sealed copies are still available on the after-market. For at least a year the game was distributed by Encore USA, and during that time it appeared in the bargain software area of many major retailers for around $10. So you can still find copies of the game in some retailers, or in online marketplaces such as Amazon (the game can also be found as part of the Atari War RTS Deluxe Edition).
The Game: Somewhat based upon the classic board game "Axis and Allies" by Larry Harris, although many fans of that game were disappointed with A&A. The game itself more closely resembles some of the early Command and Conquer games like Red Alert, minus the resource gathering. While Axis and Allies had it's flaws, a handful of glitches and balancing issues, the game at it's core was still pretty good and actually quite fun to play online. Over time, a loyal community developed....
The Community: While Axis and Allies RTS never received much critical acclaim, the following it developed was small, but tightly knit. Many of us first discovered TeamSpeak during these days, and began to meet friends from across the globe. Over the past years other RTS titles have been released, but the loyal crew of A&A always seemed to come back for more. Thats the main reason we have developed www.axis-and-allies.com - The Community. Long Live A&A!
www.axis-and-allies.com - Your UnOfficial Axis and Allies RTS MegaSite!
A&A RTS: The Secret Police
While we invite and encourage you to participate in our community, our superiors have asked us to inform you of certain guidelines they would like followed on this site and forums. Be respectful of others and keep it all in good fun. This site is NEUTRAL territory for all dedicated A&A players. When discussing a serious aspect of the game attempt to stay on topic. Never question or critique the regime. Failure to comply will be met with harsh and strict penalties. The secret police may bring you in for questioning in the middle of the night, and demand to see your documents. Repeat offenders may disappear altogether.
Better to Police yourself, than to give us reason to question your behavior. We will step in, on the forums, for warnings when needed.
www.axis-and-allies.com actually has no secret police, at least not officially

1. Economy: When it comes to the strengths of the United States, first and foremost it is their economy, which will offer benefits for the entire game. Common for players to "eco whore" during the infantry stage of the game, spamming alot of infantry hq's to bolster their economy (stay away from airborne hq's as they don't generate as much money for USA).
3. Arty Tanks: USA also has one of the strongest Arty Tank regiments. Use your superior economy to produce more units in less time, and back those arties with the best airpower in the game for a truly devastating offensive push.
4. Airpower: Best airpower in the game. Napalm very effective against enemy structures as buildings have no resistance to fire damage. Although the exact damage inflicted by napalm isnt very well documented, we have seen it add up to +70% to total damage.
"When I want my men to remember something important, to really make it stick, I give it to them double dirty. It may not sound nice to some bunch of little old ladies at an afternoon tea party, but it helps my soldiers to remember. You can't run an army without profanity; and it has to be eloquent profanity. An army without profanity couldn't fight its way out of a piss-soaked paper bag. ... As for the types of comments I make, sometimes I just, By God, get carried away with my own eloquence. " General Patton
1. Snipers: Snipers can take out enemy infantry faster than any other type of infantry. Not worth making snipers unless you deploy at least 8 or more regiments, as the sniper units of these regiments can easily kill an entire enemy regiment very quickly (since most regiments have 8 or less units). Keep your snipers in trees and cities to help avoid being "bombed".
2. Armor: Whether Heavy Tank or Arty Tank, Russia has some of the finest armor in the game. Russian armor has a higher health than the other countries, and in most cases a higher defense value as well, which can be seen in the following unit comparisons: [ARTY TANKS] [LIGHT TANKS] [MEDIUM TANKS] [HEAVY TANKS] [COMMAND TANKS]
"This war is not an ordinary war. It is the war of the entire Russian people. Not only to eliminate the danger hanging over our heads, but to aid all people groaning under the yoke of Fascism." Josef Stalin 1941
1. Infantry: Japan has many options when it comes to infantry, and also has the right upgrades for an infantry based build, most notably, Special Forces. Mortars, Heavy Airborne, and Commandos are all viable options when it comes to Japan.
2. Economy: Japan is the only country to earn +30 from every type of HQ (after Military Surplus upgrade), which leads to a strong late-game economy.
3. Airborne: Japanese Heavy Airborne costs less than any other country, $75/$150 instead of $100/$200 [ground deployed/air dropped]
4. Arty Tanks: The Japanese Arty Tank regiment is the only one in the game to feature medium tanks as support vehicles, all others only have light tanks.
"My attack on Singapore was a bluff, a bluff that worked... I was very frightened that all the time the British would discover our numerical weakness and lack of supplies and force me into disastrous street fighting." General Yamashita
1. SaS: They are the strongest infantry against all infantry and the second strongest infantry against mechs. Along with having 2 sniper units in their squad, SAS has a 2 defense, which differs from the typical 1 defense of most infantry. Their armor can even be upgraded to 3 defense with Special Forces for even more durability. This upgrade is a must have when going against mechs.
2. Economy: British HQ's cost less than those of any other country, which allows players to produce more buildings in less time, and in turn helps to bolster their economy.
3. Airpower: Second best airpower in the game, only missing the Napalm upgrade available exclusively to the USA.
"The U.S. has broken the second rule of war. That is, don't go fighting with your land army on the mainland of Asia. Rule One is don't march on Moscow. I developed these two rules myself." General Montgomery - regarding US approach to the Vietnam War
1. AT Mech: Arguably the strongest Anti Tank Mech regiment in the game. The Jagdpanther and it's 88mm Gun inflict a punishing 100 attack value when fully upgraded, making it the best Tank Destroyer in the game hands down. Good available upgrades, only missing Mechanical Reliability, but Germany also has a couple of unique upgrades, Advanced Armor Training and Schurzen which help make up for this. Decent halftracks that possess the important Improved Machine Guns upgrade. The challenge with Germany is surviving the infantry stage of the game, and deploying enough of them with their weak economy. Played correctly, Germany can be a dominate force during the Mech Stage of the game.
2. Armor: Whether Heavy Tank, King Tiger Tank, or the underrated German Arty Tank, Germany has some of the finest armor in the game. The challenge with Germany is to get to the armor stage of the game, due to their weak economy.
"Which would your men rather be, tired, or dead?" General Rommel - Said to an Officer while building Hitler's Atlantic Wall

GAMERANGER: GameRanger now supports Axis and Allies RTS
Some really good news for hard-core A&A fans, as GameRanger now supports Axis and Allies RTS, the A&A demo, and even the older title Axis & Allies: Iron Blitz. This means if GameSpy should go down, either temporarily or permanently, hard-core A&A fans will still have a home. GameRanger offers features like profiles, friends lists, instant messaging, in-game voice communication, and competitive ladders/rankings/ratings.
"Hey there, just thought you'd like to know that Axis and Allies RTS (and its demo) are now playable on GameRanger.
I know the GameSpy issue has been solved for now, but this gives you another option so you aren't dependent on their goodwill. Plus, GameRanger deals with routers and firewalls automatically."
